Yamato tells how Ace went to Onigashima with the intention of freeing the kidnapped children of Wanokuni, but when he arrived the most important members of the Beasts Pirates were not there. Ace confronted Yamato believing that he was someone important in the crew, but he soon understood his desire for adventure and the two struck up a friendship. They both drank the whole night together and that's how Yamato found out about Luffy.
