Luffy first meets Buggy in the third stop of his voyage. A small town where he meets his third crew member, Nami, who tricks Luffy at first and brings him to Buggy in exchange for her life. Luffy eventually escapes and fights Buggy. After defeating some of his crew members Luffy takes on Buggy himself. He tells him that Shanks was his partner in his former crew. Buggy ate the Bara Bara fruit which allows him to separate his body parts. He ends up getting defeated when he loses most of his body parts and only has his head, his hands, and his feet left making him very small. After Luffy leaves, Buggy meets Alvida and they team up to take on Luffy and his crew again. They are defeated and are captured by the Marines. They manage to escape and run off. After chasing Luffy meets his brother and later was captured by the Marines and imprisoned in Impel Down. But manages to escape thanks to Luffy and the other prisoners, departing to Marineford. After the war, Buggy's past into Gol D. Roger's crew was made public, the escaped prisoners from Impel Down decide to join the Buggy Pirates and the World Government began to see him as a threat.

Buggy's Past

Buggy once was on a pirate ship with Luffy's hero, Shanks, when they were apprentices in Gol D. Roger's crew. Shanks accidently made Buggy eat the Bara Bara fruit and lost his map. That is why Buggy hates him.

He is Buggy's chief of staff. Cabaji, a skilled acrobatist and swordsman takes on Zoro. He uses a large variety of "Circus" attacks against Zoro but nothing seems to be working. Zoro finishes him off using the move, Oni Giri on him. Cabaji has long black hair and is usually seen riding a unicycle. After Buggy's defeat at the hands of Luffy, Cabaji dispute the captain position with Mohji in a long fight in which, unexpectedly, Richie comes out as the winner. Later, Buggy retake the leadership and the crew goes in the search of Captain John's treasure. However, Buggy would be captured by the Marines, after which Alvida take the leadership. When Buggy escaped from Impel Down, the prisoners who followed him decided to join the crew, taking Mohji and Cabaji as their masters.

A group of four pirates armed with knives known as the acrobatic Fuwars. They attacked Nami when she refused to fire Buggy's cannon against Luffy.

The group of pirates who were sent by Buggy to recover the navigation chart of the Grand Line that Nami had robbed them. Supposedly these three men have a superhuman strength, but Luffy easily defeated them after getting annoyed when they touched his hat.

Buggy's first mate is Mohji, "Wild Animal-Tamer". He rides atop a large lion named Richie and it will listen to anything he tells it to do. Mohji and Richie destroy a pet shop that a dog named Chou Chou was guarding making the dog mad. This of course makes Luffy made and he fights the two. He quickly beats Mohji and his beast. Mohji is strange because his hair covers his whole body and changes throughout the series. He shows up again later with Buggy and Cabaji.

Richie is Mohji's pet lion. During the attack of the Buggy Pirates over the Orange Village, Richie destroyed Chou Chou's Pet Shop and rased with all the food. Event that angered Luffy and led him to defeat Richie and his owner. When Buggy was defeated, Mohji and Cabaji fought to decide who would be the new captain, however, between dreams Richie defeated both of them being proclaimed the new captain of the gang until Buggy came back again.

Three brothers which work for Buggy and were sent to obtain a treasure. In their path the meet with Nami and she they deceit them to rob their boat and treasures. But late on, Zoro would rescue them and after giving them a beating they helped him to arrive at Orange.
